10-year-old that went missing while hunting with grandpa found later deceased from gunshot wound.
Wyatt Eaves-Niebert was reportedly best friends with his grandfather. The 10-year-old boy dreamed of joining the Marines when he turned 18 and was very trained in gun safety. These facts make the circumstances surrounding his death even more confusing.
Wyatt and his grandfather left his West Virginia home early Saturday morning to go squirrel hunting. Hours later, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an ATV accident in a rural location.
Once on scene, his grandfather who was involved in the accident, reported to officers he was using his ATV in an attempt to find his grandson who had gone missing earlier in the day.
According to the grandfather, the 2 had taken a break from hunting to have lunch. After he was done eating, Wyatt had informed his grandfather he was going to walk around a bit and look for squirrels. Once the grandfather finished eating he called out for Wyatt but received no response.
Wyatt was never seen alive again.
On Sunday morning, Wyatt was found dead from a single gunshot wound. Wyatt was carrying a 22 caliber rifle and there has been no report if this was the gun that delivered the deadly wound. Authorities are not releasing whether foul play was involved or if this was just a tragic accident.
Wyatt’s body has been turned over to the medical examiner for further inspection and the Mason County Sheriff’s office is continuing to conduct an investigation into this strange and tragic death.

Wyatt Eaves-Nibert was born on June 17, 2013, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, to his parents Franklin Scott Eaves and Adrienne Dawn (Jason) Nibert.
